Our story

1988

Sylvie Sempo, trained as a teacher, and Alain Limbos, a physical education teacher, decided to take a career break to embark on the great adventure of manufacturing Brazilian pastries and other products for pastry chefs, chocolate makers and ice cream makers. 
The company Silly (short for Sylvie) was created in May 1988 as a Cooperative Society.

1992
After about 4 years of activity, and a turnover having almost quadrupled (to reach 500.000 EUR at the end of 1991), the Silly company changes its status and becomes a Limited Company (in April 1992).
1999

Thanks to its products and the loyalty of its customers, the Silly company continues to develop and sees its turnover vary around 2 Mio. EUR.

An opportunity arose for Sylvie and Alain to take over the Antwerp-based company Sukro, which manufactures nougatine in the form of wafers (round, square and rectangular) or granules.

2002

In order to rationalize the company Sukro is merged by absorption into the company Silly.

2003

The Hazelnut crunch (praligrain) meeting more and more success with its customers, the acquisition of a manufacturing line of Hazelnut crunch allows the company to pass from a capacity of 1.000 kg/day to more than 4.000 kg/day (in 1 team).

2007

The site of the Boulevard Bockstael (Laeken) became somewhat cramped and obsolete, and after much research, the Silly company became the owner of a new production site in the municipality of Jette (1090 Brussels), with a built-up area of more than 5,000 m².

2008

In order to expand its activities, the company decides to buy a second production line of Hazelnut crunch (praligrain) which brings the total production capacity to 8.000 kg/day (in 1 shift).

2010

In 2010, Silly moves to its new site in Jette, on the Dieleghem road.

2015

In February 2015, Silly passed its first BRC audit and obtained certification with the highest level (Higher Level, Grade A).

2019

​In June 2019, Silly splits up to separate its real estate activity from its operating activity. This demerger results in the creation of 2 entities named respectively LLG Silly Invest and Silly Belgium.

2021

Silly Belgium is FSSC 22000 and RainForest Alliance certified since 2021.
